Fly Koh Larn, Koh Larn Island, Pattaya, Thailand.

Ok this is what it is all about! Up there in silence flying on the rising wind from the west Meanwhile, we are starting from Pattaya’s Bali Hai Pier, we need to negotiate the Covid assault course, to get on a boat to Koh Larn Island, where Fly Koh Larn operate from. So we are off, leaving Pattaya’s Bali Hai Pier on a speedboat. The ferry leaves from here too and is a fair bit cheaper, at 30 baht. We arrived a bit late for the ferry, and with faffing about with the App, before we were allowed on the pier, we were a bit tight to get the 09.00am […]

New Samis International Restaurant

This is a great place for some good food. First impression is the car park is a good size! They upgraded to this location about two & a half years ago, having been further up the road towards Tara Pattana in a single unit for maybe five years before that. As you walk in there is a good sized aircon room on your left. There is a large seating area to the right. Although it is inside, it is well ventilated due to the side walls being open on three sides, with roller blind screens if needed. Ok, it looks a bit empty, however these are very hard times, and […]

Siamburi’s, Soi Khao Talo, Pattaya, Thailand.

This is a great shop for buying grub from back home. Lots of the usual brands and foods. Lots of other things too, some local stuff made like the things from back home…meat pies being a good example. Oh and “from back home” can also mean the complete opposite…… from GB or Aus! This picture shows the newer larger size shop, the picture lower down shows it is a smaller size, at the back before being extended. Open every day, 08.00am to 08.00pm  every day of the week. PG tips, Tetley, Yorkshire and Typhoo and a host of biscuits to go with your choice. of cuppa! All the familiar names, […]

Nicky’s Restaurant Bar & Guesthouse, Soi Buakhow, Pattaya, Thailand.

This is a great place for home from home cooking, run by an English couple, David and Debbie. The food has always been good for me, sometimes a breakfast, sometimes a pick from their well thought out menu. Plenty of breakfast items, with a proper full english with toast through Eggs Benedict onto a healthy options Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs on Granary. Almost every option coming with Tea or Coffee. An assortment of Burgers and Ribs and lots of choices from the Mains and House Specials, Hunters Chicken, Bangers & Mash, Haddock & Chips and Beef Stew & Dumplings. Sunday Roasts are a favourite too, Slow Roast Pork, Beef […]

Mum Cafe, Soi 15 Soi Buakhow, Pattaya

This is a very new and welcome addition to the coffee shops available here. They opened on Valentines Day in 2020. I have been there a few times and the food and service was always spot on. It really is a freshly made and healthy option kind of place! Pleasing and simple decor with a few tables and chairs or comfy sofa seating inside with Aircon or some casual seating outside at the front to watch the world go by. First time here I tried the Croque Monseur with an added Egg and for my second visit I had the Avo Mash, which comes with Salmon and poached eggs on […]

The Sportsman Pub & Restaurant, Soi 13 Beach Road, Pattaya

This is a great place to pop in for some quality food and drink, with big TV’s to watch some Sports or use the Pool Table. Open from 7.00am till 2.00am The Sportsman has been around a long time, in fact from 1997, and now being run with Dave Bowers in the background and Darren Lowe being more hands on, it has and always had, a good English Pub feel to it. Just chatting with Darren for a few minutes, and I could feel the enthusiasum he has about food! He has always been involved with food, cooking in his parents pub and then moving into food distribution and now […]

Udon Thani, Isaan, North East, Thailand.

Just a day out in Udon Thani. My first trip up here. Lots of stuff going on so it can be difficult to choose which places to visit. Just an hour and a quarter for a flight from Pattaya U-Tapao to Udon International Airport or about a nine hour drive along 690 Km of the route 7, route 9 and route 2 roads. We randomly chose the Thanbury Hotel, situated near to some of the bars and restaurants as well as Central Plaza Shopping Mall. A new, modern and pleasant hotel, they have car parking and a lift for the lazy (ok thats me then!) and included a buffet breakfast. […]

Mu Koh Chang National Park, Trat Province, Thailand

Mu Koh Chang is an Island and it is a good place for an easy and relaxing getaway from the Hustle and Bustle of Pattaya or even Bangkok. It is not too far to get to and is about a four plus hour drive and maybe five plus from Bangkok, depending on traffic and stops, to get to the ferry. Easy to get to, taking the 36 from Pattaya, to cut off the Sattahip area, and heading South using our old friend the Sukhumvit Road, passing Rayong and heading down towards Trat and Cambodia, and turning right on the 3156 road for the Ferry. From Bangkok heading down the 7 […]

The Peaky Blinders, Soi 1 Phratamnak, Pattaya, Thailand

Ok, this one is a bit of fun and the first time I heard about this one I was in a private house and was asked if I wanted a Takeaway from The Peaky Blinders! I knew I would have to do a blog! Even more strange was the next question “Do you want a Reuben Sandwich?” Probably not something you would relate to The Peaky Blinders, so after some discussion, we both ordered a Reuben and it turned out to be really very good, not that I know much about American grub and taking up my total input of Reuben Sandwiches to Two! A few days later, as chance […]

Driving & Road Sense in Thailand !

After reading a Short Article on Pattaya Unplugged called “A Hip Pocket Class on Turn Signals” I realised it was a good starting point to talk about Traffic and Road Sense here in Thailand. Or maybe that should be about the Complete Lack of Road Sense here! So let’s continue with Indicators on Cars. They are actually on both sides of the steering wheel in different makes of cars, but easy to figure, because you just turn them in the same direction that the steering wheel will go! Also if there is someone in the car who knows how to turn them on in the first place, the car actually […]
